Albin Loidl Elected as New DRV President
The German Travel Association (DRV) has a new president. Albin Loidl has been elected to the role, succeeding Norbert Fiebig who chose not to run for re-election. The election saw an unusually high level of excitement and surprise within the industry.
Loidl, who previously served as managing director of Alpha Reisebüro Partner GmbH and led the Holiday Land travel agency franchise system, brings over 35 years of experience in international tourism to the DRV presidency. His extensive background includes a stint as a board member of DRV from 2012 to 2019 and working as a sustainability officer for the Quality Travel Alliance (QTA).
The election was a close race, with Marija Linnhoff, head of the Association of Independent Travel Agencies (VUSR), running against Loidl. However, Linnhoff received only around 10% of the votes. Another candidate, Benjamin Bindewald, received a mere 0.3% of the votes. Loidl, on the other hand, won the election with a clear majority, securing around 87% of the votes.
Albin Loidl's election as the new president of the DRV signals a continuation of experienced leadership in the German travel industry. His extensive background in tourism and sustainability is expected to guide the DRV through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
