Alexandria Launches Citywide Art Contest for America 250 Celebration
Alexandria has joined the America 250 City Art Poster Project, inviting local artists to create designs that reflect the city's history and future. The competition is open to anyone living, working, or studying in the area, with submissions accepted until April 17.
The project encourages artists to produce posters that capture Alexandria's past while inspiring optimism for what lies ahead. Each entry must be vertically oriented, measuring 24 inches wide by 32 inches tall. Free paper for creating the posters is available at the city's recreation centres and arts partner locations.
Mayor Alyia Gaskins will serve as the judge for the competition. The winning design will be announced on April 23 during an event at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
The selected poster will receive prominent exposure. It will feature in an official national digital publication, be displayed locally, and showcased at the US Conference of Mayors' 94th Annual Meeting in Long Beach, California. Full contest guidelines are available on the USCM website.
The winning artwork will represent Alexandria in a national celebration of local history and creativity. Artists have until April 17 to submit their entries, with the announcement of the winner set for April 23.
