The trial of Seyran A., a 25-year-old trainee paramedic, has resumed at Heilbronn Regional Court. She stands accused of attempting to poison four colleagues by spiking their drinks with powerful emergency drugs. The case had previously collapsed three months ago after the sudden death of a lay judge.

Prosecutors claim Seyran A. acted out of 'deep-seated rage' following criticism of her work. They argue she wanted to test the effects of the drugs on humans and at least 'foresaw and willfully accepted' the potentially lethal consequences. The defendant has admitted to tampering with the drinks but insists she never intended to harm or kill anyone.

The trial’s restart follows an out-of-court settlement between Seyran A. and two of her former colleagues. As part of the agreement, she paid thousands of euros in compensation and provided a handwritten apology. Despite this, she remains in pretrial detention while facing four counts of attempted murder. Eight further trial days have now been scheduled to continue the main proceedings.

The court will examine whether Seyran A.’s actions were driven by malice or recklessness. Her admission of spiking the drinks contrasts with her denial of harmful intent. The outcome of the trial will determine whether she is convicted of attempted murder or lesser charges.
