Alleged use of heavy tranquilizers by Hillary Clinton remained undisclosed by Russia, according to fresh documents

In a significant revelation, declassified documents from a 2020 House Intelligence Committee report have exposed that Russian intelligence had obtained damaging information about Hillary Clinton's health during the 2016 presidential campaign. This intelligence included claims that Clinton was suffering from "intensified psycho-emotional problems," including uncontrolled fits of anger, aggression, and cheerfulness, and that she was on a daily regimen of "heavy tranquilizers."

The report, prepared by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and declassified by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, further states that then-President Barack Obama and senior Democratic leaders found Clinton's health condition to be "extraordinarily alarming" and were concerned it could seriously affect her chances against Donald Trump in the election. Notably, this health information was kept in "strictest secrecy," even from some close advisors.

The documents also allege that Clinton was suffering from chronic health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Russian intelligence reportedly held this information but chose not to release it before the election, partly because Vladimir Putin believed Clinton would win and wanted to preserve the damaging information for potential later use.

These revelations contradict previous public knowledge and show that officials in the Obama administration were closely monitoring Clinton's health concerns and their possible impact on the 2016 election outcome.

The report also sheds light on the origins of the FBI's "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation, which was launched on July 31, 2016. Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller took over the investigation, but it was John Durham who was appointed as special counsel to investigate its origins. Durham found that the FBI "failed to act" on a "clear warning sign" that the bureau was the "target" of a Clinton-led effort to "manipulate or influence the law enforcement process for political purposes" ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

The Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) that concluded Russia had interfered in the 2016 election to help Trump has also come under scrutiny. The report alleges that the ICA misrepresented these reports as reliable, without mentioning their significant underlying flaws. It also states that the ICA ignored or selectively quoted reliable intelligence reports that challenged or in some cases undermined judgments that Putin sought to elect Trump.

Mueller's investigation, which concluded in March 2019, yielded no evidence of criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election. However, these new revelations raise questions about the extent to which the Obama administration politicised and manipulated intelligence regarding Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 election.
