Almaty Region Restricts Foreign Land Ownership Amid Limited Investment
The Almaty Region has seen limited foreign investment in land, with only one agricultural project approved so far. Officials have also allocated non-agricultural plots for tourism but remain unclear on the exact number of foreign firms involved. The governor promised further details in writing after failing to provide specific figures during discussions.
A single foreign company has been granted agricultural land in the region. The project covers around 1,500 hectares and focuses on animal feed production. No other businesses have received similar approvals for farming land.
The region’s land policies continue to restrict foreign ownership, particularly in agriculture. Only one foreign-led farming project has moved forward, while non-agricultural allocations remain partially documented. Further clarification from officials is expected in due course.
