Almaty's Street Lighting Transformation: 11,300 Luminaires by 2026
Almaty is undergoing a significant transformation in its street lighting infrastructure. The city has instructed the expansion of architectural lighting programs, targeting schools, clinics, courtyard areas, and cultural sites. By 2026, over 1,500 bollard lights and 1,000 brackets will be installed along 88.5 kilometers of sidewalks. Additionally, over 80 streets will be modernized with an additional 11,300 luminaires.
In 2025, 100 social infrastructure facilities and landmark buildings were fully illuminated. A major phase of street lighting modernization was completed, with 18 sites modernized and 12 fully completed. This phase saw the installation of over 10,500 new luminaires, replacement of over 4,200 existing fixtures, and mounting of 4,100 bollard lights. Furthermore, 301 additional sites were illuminated with 2,086 new light points installed.
Darkhan Satybaldy, the city's official, emphasized the importance of meeting deadlines, improving installation quality, and strengthening oversight to ensure the safety and comfort of residents.
By the end of 2026, Almaty aims to have modernized outdoor lighting along over 80 streets and installed a total of 11,300 luminaires. The city's commitment to improving street lighting is evident in its plans to expand architectural lighting programs and modernize existing infrastructure.
