Alstom plant in Hornell secures significant contract for New York City subway system
Alstom's Hornell facility in New York is a significant player in the production of rail vehicles and propulsion systems, contributing significantly to urban transit system upgrades, particularly for New York City.
This facility, which is the largest passenger rail manufacturer in the U.S., has recently expanded with the opening of a new $75 million Plant 4 manufacturing facility. Beyond propulsion systems, Alstom is also assembling 316 modern commuter rail cars for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad at this site. This contract is expected to create nearly 300 manufacturing jobs and further extend Alstom’s presence and investment in Hornell and New York State [2].
The Hornell facility is not only active but is expanding its role in both propulsion system production and broader rail vehicle manufacturing. This supports New York City’s ongoing transit modernization efforts as well as commuter rail enhancements across the region.
The company, which was founded in 1998 and has been in operation for more than two decades, is also responsible for the production of components for multiple urban transit systems.
