Altai Territory’s 2.5B-ruble plan overhauls transport and aids families by 2030

Altai Territory Governor Viktor Tomenko unveiled a major modernisation plan during his annual live Q&A on 20 November. The initiative includes a 2.5-billion-ruble programme to upgrade the region's vehicle fleet by 2030. Key changes will affect public transport in Barnaul and Biysk, alongside financial support for local families.

The federal funding will replace buses older than 10 years across the region. In Barnaul, new electric transport will roll out, while some of the city's well-maintained trams will move to Biysk. This follows efforts to stabilise Biysk's electric transport enterprise, which recently avoided bankruptcy after receiving emergency funds.

The 2.5-billion-ruble investment will modernise public transport and extend the lifespan of existing vehicles. Biysk's tram network will see immediate repairs, while Barnaul prepares for new electric units. Families in the region will also benefit from the federal payment adjustments starting next year.
