Amit Shah predicts BJP's historic win in Assam's 2026 elections
Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a large gathering of BJP youth workers in Guwahati on Sunday. Speaking to nearly 1.25 lakh attendees, he expressed confidence that the BJP-led government would secure a record victory in Assam's upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
The event brought together young party supporters from across the state, representing close to 31,400 polling booths. Shah highlighted their strong turnout as proof of the BJP's deep grassroots presence in Assam.
Shah criticised past Congress governments for neglecting Assam's language, culture, and heritage. He also accused them of failing to address insurgency effectively. In contrast, he pointed to the current BJP administration's success in signing peace deals with militant groups, leading to over 10,800 youths surrendering arms. The Home Minister claimed the government had delivered on its job creation promises, filling around 1.65 lakh government positions in the last five years. He also stressed that the recruitment process had been free from corruption or political interference. Looking ahead to the 2026 polls, Shah predicted a decisive win for the BJP under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The election, set for April 9, will decide all 126 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly.
Shah's remarks come as the BJP prepares for a high-stakes electoral contest in Assam. The party's focus on employment, peace agreements, and grassroots mobilisation will shape its campaign in the months leading up to the vote.
