Landtag elects Anke Erdmann unanimously as Ombudsman - Anke Erdmann elected as Schleswig-Holstein's new Ombudsperson for Citizens and Police

Schleswig-Holstein has a new Ombudsperson for Citizens and Police. On Thursday afternoon, the state parliament unanimously elected 53-year-old Anke Erdmann to the role. She replaces Samiah El Samadoni, whose term concludes on May 8 after a decade of service. Anke Erdmann brings years of political experience to her new position. Until late 2025, she served as the Green Party's state chair before stepping down. Her six-year term will include overseeing the state's anti-discrimination office and the complaints office for children and youth.

Samiah El Samadoni held the role since 2014, earning widespread recognition for her work. As Bürgerbeauftragte für soziale Angelegenheiten, she was praised for her handling of social issues, particularly in child and youth welfare. The 2022/23 activity report and a 2026 Landtag plenary protocol highlighted her effectiveness in mediation. Her contributions as a bridge between the public and administration were also noted during her tenure. The state parliament's decision to appoint Erdmann came without opposition. Her election marks a transition after El Samadoni's long and well-regarded service in the office.

Erdmann's appointment begins a new chapter for the Ombudsperson's office. She will take over responsibilities that include addressing discrimination complaints and youth welfare concerns. The transition follows El Samadoni's decade-long commitment, which set a high standard for the role.
