Annual Meeting in Altenstadt: Kindergarten Expansion Dominated Discussion
Altenstadt’s town council wrapped up a busy year in 2025, addressing 154 agenda items across 14 meetings. The final session focused heavily on a major €4.5 million nursery school project, which has seen both progress and setbacks. Meanwhile, a new emergency response initiative also took shape in the town’s final months.
Throughout the year, the council worked through a packed schedule, covering everything from local infrastructure to community services. By December, attention turned to the nursery school development, originally budgeted at €4.5 million. Thanks to cost-saving measures led by Councilor Helmut Horner, the project now sits €750,000 under budget.
Land acquisitions for the new school moved forward, securing several key plots. However, attempts to expand the special-needs school’s grounds failed, leaving that part of the plan unresolved. In November, Altenstadt launched the *Helfer vor Ort* (First Responder) programme. The volunteer-led scheme has already assisted in 30 emergencies, providing faster on-scene support before ambulances arrive.
The nursery school remains on track for completion, with savings allowing for potential reinvestment elsewhere. The First Responder initiative has quickly become an active part of the town’s emergency services. Both projects reflect the council’s efforts to balance financial care with community needs.
