Leipzig, Germany - Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH (ALS), a subsidiary of the Ukrainian state-owned company Antonov, has concluded a contract to construct a new maintenance hangar at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The project, which covers an area of 24,000 square meters in the northern part of the airport, is fully financed by Antonov.

The new hangar, expected to be completed in the first half of 2027, will be located in the same area where six aircraft from Antonov are currently stationed. These aircraft, which include five operational An-124-100 transport aircraft, have been temporarily relocated to Leipzig due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Uwe Schuhart, the airport spokesman, provided information about the project and the current status of Antonov's fleet. The hangar will be used for the maintenance of the large cargo aircraft of the Antonov 124 type.

The erdbau rights contract for the new hangar has been agreed upon, but the amount of the investment for the new building has not been disclosed. It is worth noting that Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH is headquartered in Schkeuditz.

The presence of Antonov at Leipzig/Halle Airport is not new, as the company has had a maintenance base there since 2006. The airline plans to continue operating its five Antonov An-124-100 transports out of Leipzig, primarily in support of NATO and Ukraine.

The information about the project was previously reported by the "Leipziger Volkszeitung". Despite losses, Antonov Airlines will continue its operations, indicating that the fleet's focus will be on supporting Ukraine and allied operations following the conflict.
