In the northern part of Leipzig/Halle Airport, a significant development is underway. Ukrainian aviation company Antonov, a subsidiary of the state-owned Antonov, is constructing a new maintenance hangar. This expansion is being undertaken by Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH (ALS), a 100% subsidiary of Antonov, based in Schkeuditz.

The agreement between Leipzig/Halle Airport and ALS covers an expansive area of 24,000 square meters. This project, fully funded by Antonov, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027.

The new maintenance hangar, once completed, will be capable of accommodating large cargo aircraft of the Antonov 124 type. This is a crucial development, considering that following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Antonov has reportedly transferred its entire fleet to Leipzig/Halle Airport. Currently, six Antonov aircraft are stationed at the airport, primarily supporting NATO and Ukraine.

Antonov has had a presence at Leipzig/Halle Airport since 2006, with a maintenance base already in operation. The construction of the new hangar was first reported by "Leipziger Volkszeitung". However, the exact cost of the project remains undisclosed.

Uwe Schuhart, the airport spokesman for the project, did not reveal the height of the investment for the new building. Nonetheless, the anticipation surrounding the completion of this project is palpable, as it signifies a continued commitment to aviation maintenance and logistics in the region.

The expansion of Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH (ALS) at Leipzig/Halle Airport extends into various sectors, including finance, as the entire project is funded by Antonov. Furthermore, the completion of the new maintenance hangar will significantly impact the transportation and aviation industries, as it will accommodate large Antonov 124 cargo aircraft.
