Arlington’s LGBTQ protections hang in the balance ahead of November vote
A new media campaign called Arlington Strikes Out is urging city leaders to restore LGBTQ protections. The push comes after Arlington’s anti-discrimination ordinance was suspended in September 2022. Organisers are using mailers, TV ads, and social media to reach residents before a key vote on November 18, 2022.
The campaign began after the Arlington City Council delayed a vote on removing sexual orientation and gender identity from its anti-discrimination rules. Originally set for October 14, 2022, the decision was postponed to November 18, 2022. In response, the HELP Center for LGBTQ Health—a Fort Worth-based nonprofit—launched Arlington Strikes Out to pressure council members into keeping the protections.
The City Council’s upcoming vote on November 18, 2022 will determine the future of LGBTQ protections in Arlington. If passed, the ordinance would be reinstated but could still face suspensions under certain conditions. The Arlington Strikes Out campaign continues to rally public support ahead of the November 18 decision.
