Armed Attack on Protesters Halting Illegal Sand Mining in Bhola Leaves Four Wounded
A group of armed men, allegedly led by Choket Jamal and Shahin, attacked locals protesting illegal sand extraction from the Meghna River in Bhola's Bhabanipur Char area around 11:30am. Four people were injured, three with bullet wounds.
The incident occurred after locals attempted to halt the illegal silica extraction. More than a hundred residents had previously informed authorities about the sand mining. The attackers, numbering around six to seven, opened fire on the protestors.
The dredger involved in the illegal extraction was later removed, and a case is set to be filed. Choket Jamal, accused of leading the attack, denied involvement, claiming a conspiracy against him. Police and magistrates were deployed but arrived after the attack. The injured have been identified as Shajahan Mir, 70, Md Ali, Apurba Patwari, and Shafiur Rahman.
The attack in Bhola's Bhabanipur Char area has left four locals injured. The sand dredger involved has been removed, and a case will be filed. Despite denials from the alleged leader, Choket Jamal, authorities are investigating the incident.
