Arnsberg celebrates 71 new German citizens in historic ceremony
Arnsberg has welcomed 71 new German citizens in its second naturalization ceremony of 2025. The event took place in the historic Knights’ Hall of the Old Town Hall, where Mayor Ralf Paul Bittner personally greeted each participant. The group included individuals from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Kosovo, Russia, and Mexico.
The ceremony marked a growing trend in naturalization applications, driven by recent reforms in German citizenship laws. These changes have made it easier for long-term residents to qualify, though standard requirements—such as proof of residency, legal competency, and a commitment to Germany’s democratic values—remain in place. Exceptions may apply for family members or those married to German citizens.
The 71 new citizens now hold full rights and responsibilities under German law. Their naturalization follows a structured process that ensures integration and legal compliance. The ceremony underscores Arnsberg’s role in supporting those who choose to make Germany their permanent home.
