Arson Attack in Berlin Leaves 50,000 Without Power
Southeastern Berlin experienced a substantial power outage yesterday, with around 50,000 customers affected. The blackout was due to an arson attack on high-voltage masts, with a group calling themselves 'Some Anarchists' asserting responsibility. The group published a manifesto on the left-wing platform Indymedia, declaring their intent to target the military-industrial complex.
The manifesto, released on Wednesday morning, claimed the attack was aimed at the technology park Adlershof. The group views the high-tech industry in the park as 'system-stabilizing' and a 'product of military interests'. They regard attacking such infrastructure as a means to disrupt what they call 'one of the main arteries of human subjugation over humans and nature'.
Police are currently investigating the authenticity of the manifesto. The suspected perpetrators have stated that the power outage affecting private households is acceptable 'collateral damage', presenting the attack as an action against wars and the destruction of nature.
The arson attack has left approximately 50,000 customers without power. While the authenticity of the claim of responsibility is being investigated, the incident has raised concerns about the security of critical infrastructure. The suspected perpetrators' motives and the potential impact on the military-industrial complex and the wider community remain under scrutiny.
