Asante Mampong Traditional Council introduces new Mamponhene to Otumfuo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has moved to resolve a long-standing succession dispute in the Asante Mampong Traditional Area. On December 18, 2025, he introduced Leslie Osei Bonsu as the chosen successor to the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II during a ceremony at the Manhyia Palace.

The introduction ceremony took place in the presence of key figures, including the Queen, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, and the Adontenhene of Asante Mampong, Barimah Osei Hwedie II. Otumfuo also addressed an objection petition from Botaasehene, directing that the petitioner be updated on the succession process.

Otumfuo clarified that Leslie Osei Bonsu’s enstoolment would not grant him immediate authority over the traditional area. First, he must swear an oath of allegiance to the Asantehene. The kingmakers were instructed to set a date for the enstoolment and ensure the new chief receives proper traditional and customary education. Notably absent from the event was Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, who was reported to be receiving medical treatment abroad. Otumfuo ordered him to attend the swearing-in ceremony, warning that failure to do so would be seen as an abdication of his position. Leslie Osei Bonsu, a senior software architect and geospatial systems strategist, now awaits the final steps of his enstoolment after the succession dispute was settled by Otumfuo.

The resolution of the dispute clears the way for Leslie Osei Bonsu’s formal installation. His enstoolment will follow once he completes the required oath of allegiance and traditional training. The Asantehene’s directives ensure the process moves forward with clarity and adherence to custom.
