Aschaffenburg Marks 80th Anniversary of 1938 Pogroms with Guided Tours, Lectures, and Memorial

Aschaffenburg and its partners are set to honour the victims of the November 9, 1938 pogroms with a series of events on the 80th anniversary. The commemoration will include guided tours, lectures, and a central memorial ceremony.

Kicking off the remembrance events is a guided tour led by Anja Lippert, M.A., on November 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Titled 'From Torah Ark to Backpack: Jewish History and Culture in Aschaffenburg', it will delve into the city's Jewish heritage.

The following day, November 9, 2025, will see a public guided tour of Aschaffenburg’s Jewish community history led by Lippert at 5:00 PM. This will be followed by a central memorial ceremony at Wolfsthalplatz at 6:00 PM, accompanied by music.

Earlier that day, the Museum of Jewish History and Culture will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for those interested in learning more about the city's Jewish past.

Two historical lectures are also scheduled. Dr. Florian Gernot Stickler will speak on Mascha Kaléko on November 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM. On the anniversary itself, Prof. Dr. Joachim Scholtyseck will give a lecture on the responsibility for the November 1938 pogrom night in Aschaffenburg at 7:30 PM at the Storchennest, Schönborner Hof.

Aschaffenburg's commemoration of the November 9, 1938 pogroms promises to be a poignant and informative series of events. Through guided tours, lectures, and a memorial ceremony, the city honours its Jewish history and the victims of the pogroms.
