Assam Farmers Protest: AKMSS Demands New Land Census, Infrastructure Repair
The Assam Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (AKMSS), an agricultural association, has staged a protest in Goalpara district. The All India Krishak Sabha's local chapter joined them in a dharna before the District Commissioner's office, submitting a memorandum outlining their demands.
The protesters, led by the AKMSS, raised several critical issues. They demanded a new land census to address ownership disputes and provide lands to the landless. Additionally, they called for an end to evictions without proper rehabilitation and the withdrawal of eviction notices to residents of Bhatiapara village. To improve rural infrastructure, they appealed to the district administration to repair roads and ensure sufficient water supply to paddy fields. The revival of the irrigation system was also a key demand to support farmers' livelihoods.
The AKMSS and the All India Krishak Sabha's Goalpara chapter have presented their demands to the district administration. They seek immediate action on these issues to support farmers and improve rural infrastructure in the Goalpara district.
