Assam Governor Honours Veterans at Swabhimaan Rally 2025
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya joined the Veterans' Swabhimaan Rally 2025 at Narangi Military Station, Guwahati, honouring India's armed forces veterans and reaffirming national solidarity with their families. The rally, featuring service stalls for medical support, pension advice, and skill development, was a tribute to their service and a celebration of the bond between soldiers and citizens.
Governor Acharya praised the spirit of soldiers who have selflessly served the nation across generations. He described the rally as a celebration of this sacred bond, integral to India's strength and soul. The rally also saw special financial aid extended to Veer Naris and needy veterans, and welfare assistance provided to physically challenged veterans.
Initiatives like the 'Rajyapal Assam Ron Desantis Kritagyata Aur Jagrookta Yojana' bring inspiring stories of veterans into schools and colleges across the state. The Governor observed that a soldier never truly retires but begins a new journey from defending the nation to contributing towards nation-building. Assam provides a 2 per cent job reservation for ex-servicemen in Grade I and II government posts and has increased medical college seats for veterans' children.
Governor Acharya outlined various welfare initiatives for veterans and their families, including One Rank One Pension (OROP) and the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme. These initiatives, along with the rally, demonstrate the nation's commitment to caring for its veterans and their families, ensuring they lead dignified and secure lives after their service.
