Assam Mourns Zubeen Garg: Thousands Gather for Secular Tribute
Assam mourned the loss of music legend Zubeen Garg, with thousands gathering at Digboi Refinery Field to pay their respects on the 23rd day since his passing. The event, organized with deep religious sentiment, saw around ten groups of Assamese customary Gayan-Bayan and hundreds of Bhakats performing traditional hymns and devotional songs for his soul's peace.
The mortal remains of Zubeen Garg were placed at the venue for public viewing and tribute. A sea of grieving fans and admirers filled the field, representing a diverse range of people from all walks of life. The event reflected the secular outlook and values that Zubeen Garg upheld during his lifetime.
Local MLA Suren Phukan attended the event and offered his tribute to the late musician. Jiten Dutta, President of the Organizing Committee, demanded strict action against those responsible for Zubeen Garg's death, as the circumstances surrounding his passing remain unclear. The Assam CM has confirmed receiving the death certificate, and a post-mortem report is awaited.
Various religious groups expressed their love and reverence for Zubeen Garg through their respective prayers, chants, and hymns. The event was organized jointly by the AOD Contractors' Association with support from the people of Digboi, highlighting the profound impact Zubeen Garg had on Assam's cultural landscape.
