Assam's Hojai district gears up for Assembly elections with 984 polling stations
Preparations for Assam's upcoming state Assembly elections are well underway in Hojai district. Officials have set up 984 polling stations across three constituencies—Binnakandi, Hojai, and Lumding—with additional security measures for 181 critical locations. Training sessions for polling staff have already taken place at six local educational institutions.
The district has divided polling stations as follows: 345 in Binnakandi, 316 in Hojai, and 323 in Lumding. Each constituency will feature one model polling station, while women-managed stations will also be introduced to boost voter engagement. For convenience, separate rooms at the Deputy Commissioner's office have been assigned—Room 7 for Binnakandi, Room 12 for Hojai, and Room 17 for Lumding.
Three Additional Deputy Commissioners will serve as Returning Officers for the constituencies. Nomination papers from candidates will be accepted daily between 11 am and 3 pm at the Deputy Commissioner's office. Over 3,000 voters aged 85 and above can vote from home using Form 12D, while election officials and elderly voters also have the option of postal ballots. Security arrangements are being finalised for the 181 critical polling stations. The district aims to ensure smooth and safe voting across all locations.
The election process in Hojai district is moving forward with structured planning. Polling staff are trained, critical stations are secured, and special provisions are in place for elderly voters. The district expects a well-organised election day across all three constituencies.
