Astana's Family Day Celebrates Tradition with Weddings, Awards and Cultural Events

Astana (Nur-Sultan) is preparing to celebrate Family Day as part of the Nauryz festivities. The city has organised a range of cultural, educational and sporting events to honour family values and national traditions. Over 1,200 residents have already been recognised for their contributions to family life since 2018.

The celebrations will include a symbolic wedding ceremony in the Saryarka District. Meanwhile, jubilee couples in the Baikonur District will receive special congratulations. Mothers from large families will also be awarded state honours, such as the Kümis Alqa (Silver Shoulder) and Altyn Alqa (Gold Shoulder) awards.

The Astana Youth Music Theater will host *Songs of a Happy Home*, a creative gathering for young families. At the Orleu Center, the traditional *tusau keser* ceremony will take place, blessing children for a prosperous future. Schoolchildren will join guided tours of the Astana Art Museum, while the Centralized Library System branches will display book exhibitions on family and national heritage. A family relay race, *Merry Starts 2026*, will be held at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Additionally, a new student dormitory for college students is set to open during the festivities. Since the awards programme began in 2018, 248 families have received the **Altyn Alqa**, and 1,000 individuals have been honoured with the **Kümis Alqa**.

The events aim to reinforce family bonds and preserve national traditions. With over 1,200 residents already recognised for their dedication to family values, the celebrations will highlight Astana's commitment to cultural heritage. The new student dormitory and various activities will further support the city's youth and families.
