Astana's Library System Transformed: 25 Modern Libraries Now Open
Astana's library system has undergone a significant transformation. All 25 libraries, including the newly opened and reconstructed ones, now boast high-speed internet and modern computers. The Central City Library named after Mukhtar Auezov has reopened, attracting a growing number of readers.
The modernization project began in 2023, led by the Deputy Mayor of Astana, Yeset Baiken. Initially, the system comprised 18 dilapidated libraries, which have since been repaired and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The network has expanded by 7, bringing the total to 25 libraries, including new ones in previously underserved areas.
The reopening event was attended by prominent figures, including Yeset Baiken, renowned writers, and representatives of the intelligentsia. Students engaged in discussions about the role of libraries in the digital age and ways to boost interest in books during the AI era. Baiken proposed holding lectures under the 'Qalamger ustakhana' project in various libraries to foster literary engagement.
The modernization of Astana's library system has not only improved access to technology but also expanded the network, making books and knowledge more accessible to residents. The growing number of readers, from 80,000 to 90,000, reflects the success of these efforts. The city's commitment to promoting literacy and learning through these initiatives is evident.
