Attendorn's internet blackout leaves thousands offline after cable cut

A severed fiber-optic cable left around 3,000 households in Attendorn's city centre without internet and landline services. The outage also disrupted card payments in restaurants and ATM services at Sparkasse Attendorn. Emergency numbers for police and fire services remained working throughout the incident. The disruption began after excavation work accidentally cut a critical fiber-optic cable. Deutsche Telekom quickly identified the issue and started repairs in the early afternoon. Teams worked urgently to restore connections, while the city set up extra support centres to help affected residents.

By evening, Deutsche Telekom confirmed the main problem had been fixed. Internet and landline services gradually returned across Attendorn. The city later announced that all systems were back to normal after a full day of disruptions.

Services in Attendorn have now been fully restored, ending the widespread outage. Card payments, ATMs, and communication networks are operating as usual. The incident highlighted the city's reliance on stable fiber-optic infrastructure.
