Augsburg Launches Online Survey on Olympic Participation - Augsburg Seeks Resident Views on Munich's Olympic Bid
Augsburg is seeking public opinion on its potential involvement in Munich's bid for the Summer and Paralympic Games. The city has launched an online survey to gauge resident views, unlike Munich's in-person ballot. The survey will close on December 14, after which the city will analyze the responses to shape its Olympic planning.
Augsburg's whitewater slalom course at the Eiskanal and the WWK Arena, home to FC Augsburg, are both part of Munich's Olympic bid plan. The city aims to incorporate the results of the online survey into its own Olympic planning, with a decision from the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) on submitting a bid expected next year. Potential candidates include Berlin, Hamburg, the Rhine-Ruhr region, or Munich.
The Eiskanal has faced challenges due to climate change, with the Lech River sometimes lacking sufficient flow for training and events. The city is working on a long-term solution to this low-water issue.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will make the final decision on Augsburg's bid for the Paris Olympics in 2036, 2040, or 2044. With the survey closing on December 14, Augsburg residents are encouraged to share their views to help shape the city's potential role in Munich's bid.
