Augsburg's Mayor Weber Likely to Face Runoff - Augsburg's Lord Mayor Weber leads but faces runoff in tight election

Augsburg's incumbent Lord Mayor Eva Weber looks set to defend her position in a runoff election. Early results show her leading with 33.7 percent of the vote, based on counts from 205 of the city's 254 precincts. The second round will take place in two weeks' time.

Weber secured the highest share of votes, but fell short of an outright majority. Her closest rival, SPD candidate Florian Freund, earned 19.6 percent, qualifying him for the runoff. Green Party candidate Martina Wild followed with 15.9 percent, while AfD's Andreas Jurca received 13.5 percent.

The remaining six candidates each polled below 10 percent. With over three-quarters of precincts counted, the final outcome is expected to remain unchanged. The runoff will now decide whether Weber retains her role or Freund takes over as Augsburg's next lord mayor.

The runoff election will proceed on the scheduled date in two weeks. Weber and Freund will face each other directly, with the winner set to lead Augsburg for the coming term. Official results will be confirmed once all precincts have reported.
