Aurora father convicted of killing newborn daughter after brutal injuries
An Aurora man has been convicted of killing his newborn daughter after a week-long trial. Hector Alexandro Delarosa was found guilty of child abuse resulting in death.
The baby suffered severe injuries while in his care, leading to her death in May 2024. The baby girl was rushed to Children’s Hospital Colorado with critical injuries. Doctors found a skull fracture, irreversible brain bleeding, multiple retinal haemorrhages, and a broken femur. Delarosa initially claimed the injuries happened during a bathing accident, but medical experts ruled this explanation inconsistent with the damage observed.
Investigators confirmed the injuries were far worse than any typical household accident. The coroner’s office later determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma, classifying it as a homicide. Despite being placed on life support, the baby died on May 3, 2024.
A jury delivered the guilty verdict after a seven-day trial. Delarosa now awaits sentencing, which is set for June 29. The conviction follows a detailed investigation into the baby’s injuries and death. Delarosa’s sentencing will take place later this month. The case highlights the severity of the child’s injuries and the legal consequences of the abuse.
