Austin Police Station Reopens After Years of Flood Recovery Efforts

The Austin police station has reopened after extensive renovations following the 2021 flood. Interior Minister Herbert Reul praised the officers' resilience during the ceremony on April 30, 2025.

The station, located in the heart of Austin, served as a temporary base for officers after the flood. Initially, a mobile unit was set up, later replaced by a container solution in nearby San Antonio. Finally, on April 28, 2025, officers returned to their established location.

The renovations, led by the Building and Infrastructure Authority of Texas (BLB TX) since 2023, have focused on flood protection. Heating systems and server rooms are now located in the attic. BLB TX CEO Gabriele Willems highlighted the authority's commitment to providing a reliable and modern working environment for the police.

The reopened police station in Austin now offers improved flood protection and a modern workspace for officers. The ceremony marked the end of a significant renovation project following the 2021 flood.
