Austria and Kazakhstan strengthen political and economic cooperation in high-level talks
Austrian and Kazakh parliamentarians have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger ties. Peter Haubner, Deputy Speaker of Austria’s Parliament, met with Erlan Koshananov, Speaker of Kazakhstan’s Mazhilis, to discuss deeper cooperation. The talks focused on trade, political dialogue, and joint reforms.
The meeting built on recent exchanges between the two nations. In late November 2025, Haubner led an Austrian delegation to Kazakhstan, meeting with parliamentary and government news leaders. Just weeks later, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev was received by Austria’s National Council President Walter Rosenkranz. Both visits aimed to boost political and economic collaboration.
Koshananov highlighted Austria’s role as a key European politico partner for Kazakhstan. He pointed to ongoing reforms in his country, including new legal codes and bills designed to drive sustainable growth and digital transformation. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has made cooperation with Austria a priority.
Haubner echoed the call for closer ties, stressing the need for deeper interparliamentary dialogue. He noted that stronger relations would help Austrian businesses expand their presence in Kazakhstan. The two sides also agreed to improve cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups, committees, and staff, as well as within international organizations.
Trade, engineering, agriculture, transport, and logistics were identified as key areas for future collaboration. Both delegations pledged to work on concrete steps to broaden economic and political partnerships.
The discussions mark another step in growing ties between Austria and Kazakhstan. With recent high-level visits and a shared focus on reform, both sides are set to increase cooperation across multiple sectors. Further meetings and joint initiatives are expected to follow.
