Austria Honors Two Legal Champions for Defending the Rule of Law
The Austrian Bar Association (ÖRAK) has awarded its highest honour, the Honorary Badge of the Austrian Legal Profession, to two prominent figures. Salzburg Governor Karoline Edtstadler and Green Party MP Alma Zadić received the accolade for their dedication to the rule of law. The ceremony recognised their long-standing contributions to an independent judiciary.
ÖRAK President Armenak Utudjian presented the awards, praising both recipients for their commitment to upholding legal principles. The badge has previously been given to 29 individuals, including former Austrian President Heinz Fischer in 2016 and ex-Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel in 2018. Other notable recipients are Brigitte Bierlein, Irmgard Griss, and Clemens Jabloner.
The Honorary Badge now joins the list of distinctions held by Edtstadler and Zadić. Their recognition underscores the ÖRAK’s focus on individuals who actively defend judicial independence. The ceremony also reinforced the association’s role in honouring those who contribute to Austria’s legal and democratic framework.
