Austrian Stonemason Wins First National Design Award After 25 Years of Craftsmanship

Georg Leeb's stonemasonry business, stone4you, has won its first national Design Award. The prize was presented during Stone Masonry Education Week in Traunkirchen, Upper Austria. The winning project—a gracefully curved staircase crafted from Croatian limestone—showcases the company's skill and creativity.

Leeb began his career 25 years ago in Schöngrabern, where he set up a small craft workshop. By 1999, he formally established stone4you GmbH in Germany, initially focusing on European stone trade. The business expanded steadily, and today it employs 54 people at its base in Hollabrunn.

An early venture into the Czech Republic in 2008, though unsuccessful, helped Leeb build valuable industry connections. One of these relationships later contributed to the award-winning staircase project. Over time, stone4you grew its reach beyond Europe, securing major contracts in the USA, Asia, and the Middle East. Notable projects include luxury hotel facades in New York (2015), partnerships with Indian and Chinese quarries (since 2008), and supplying materials for Dubai skyscrapers (2020). The company now boasts over 50 international collaborations. Despite its global success, this year's Design Award marks the first time stone4you has claimed top honours in a nationwide competition.

The award highlights stone4you's reputation for quality and innovation in stonemasonry. With a team of 54 and a growing list of international projects, the company continues to expand its influence. The Croatian limestone staircase now stands as a testament to its craftsmanship and ambition.
