Mayor Matthias Stadler will seek a fifth term as the SPÖ's lead candidate. The far-right Freedom Party (FPÖ) made a significant showing, capturing 8.92% of the vote, with Klaus Otzelberger, the current FPÖ city councilor, set to lead their campaign in 2026. Otzelberger has been actively promoting security, less migration, and social justice for St. Pölten residents.

The Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) came in second with 22.74% of the vote. The Greens saw the biggest gain, rising to 8.01% of the vote, indicating a growing environmental consciousness among voters. The liberal NEOS entered the council with 3.19% of the vote. Despite securing 1.11% of the vote, the Communist Party (KPÖ Plus) missed the threshold to enter the council.
