Austria’s Towering Christmas Tree Takes Center Stage in EU Parliament
A 16-year-old Nordmann fir from Austria now stands in the European Parliament. The 3.7-metre tree was officially presented to Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Wednesday. This marks the 28th year of the Austrian Christmas tree tradition in Brussels.
The ceremony took place with high-ranking guests in attendance. Austrian MEP Alexander Bernhuber (ÖVP) formally handed over the tree. Among the attendees were EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), Austria’s Deputy EU Ambassador Franz Wirtenberger, and representatives from Lower Austria, including Deputy Governor Stephan Pernkopf and Chamber of Agriculture President Johannes Schmuckenschlager.
The decorated Nordmann fir now stands as a symbol of Austrian craftsmanship and holiday spirit. It will remain in the European Parliament throughout the festive season. The ceremony reaffirms the long-standing partnership between Austria and the EU institution.
