Aviation incident: Engine fire during landing of cargo plane in Chennai
Cargo Flight from Kuala Lumpur Lands Safely in Chennai Despite Engine Incident
An inbound international cargo flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, safely landed at Chennai Airport on Tuesday, despite a minor incident involving one of the aircraft's engines.
According to reports by the Press Trust of India (PTI), a news agency, a fire broke out in the fourth engine of the aircraft during landing. However, it was quickly contained by the fire tenders stationed at the airport after touchdown.
The incident did not require an emergency landing. The pilots alerted airport authorities about the engine issue, and the aircraft landed safely without any injuries or damage.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire was likely caused by a minor spark and smoke, possibly due to oil, dirt, or residues inside the engine. This is in contrast to media reports that portrayed the incident as a major fire.
Authorities have clarified that the event was not a major fire but a minor spark that may have been caused by contamination like oil or dirt inside the engine. An official investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Chennai International Airport authorities have emphasized the need for responsible reporting to avoid unnecessary panic. They stated that the media had exaggerated the incident.
Meanwhile, Air India announced that it will halt its non-stop flights from Delhi to Washington from September, amid growing technical hurdles.
