Azerbaijan Sees Tourism Boom as China Visits Surge 70% in 2025
Azerbaijan has witnessed a surge in tourism, with a 25.9% increase in foreign and stateless visitors in 2024, reaching 2.627 million. President Ilham Aliyev's state visit to China earlier this year has opened new tourism opportunities, particularly for Chinese visitors.
In 2024, the number of Chinese visitors to Azerbaijan stood at 44,798. Remarkably, this number has seen a 70% increase in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This growth can be attributed to the visa-exemption agreement signed between Azerbaijan and China on April 23, 2025. This agreement allows Chinese tourists to visit Azerbaijan without a visa for up to 30 days per visit, and up to three times a year. Azerbaijan is actively courting the Chinese market, prioritizing it as a key tourism destination.
The mutual visa-exemption agreement between Azerbaijan and China is expected to further boost tourism from China, following the significant increase in Chinese visitors in the first few months of 2025. This move aligns with Azerbaijan's strategy to prioritize China as a key tourism market.
