B9 Traffic Shift Marks Major Milestone in Worms Expansion Project

From this weekend, traffic on federal road 9 (B9) in Worms will shift to a new lane towards Ludwigshafen, marking a significant step in the ongoing expansion project. This change comes after several weeks of closure and detours due to construction work.

The shift, scheduled for Saturday, October 4, to Sunday, October 5, will allow vehicles to use two lanes of the new lane in the opposite direction until the lane towards Mainz and the junction with Dr.-Otto-Röhm-Straße are completed. This is a crucial step towards the completion of the overall project, which aims to significantly relieve inner-city traffic.

The four-lane expansion of B9 began in 2022 at the request of LBM Worms, including the construction of a new bridge over the Pfrimm and the rebuilding of the railway crossing over Mainzer Straße. The project is scheduled to be completed by early 2026 at the latest. However, the search results do not provide information about who is responsible for the delay in the full closure of B9 between Dr.-Otto-Röhm-Straße and Petrus-Dorn-Straße.

The temporary closure of Dr. Otto-Röhm-Straße for construction reasons will require access to the retail park and Röhm's parking lot via alternative routes. A temporary access with a traffic light from B9 to the retail park will be established during the closure. The return of B9 traffic to its original route is a welcome development, bringing the city one step closer to the completion of the B9 expansion project.
