Citizens in Bad Urach reject Amazon's plans for distribution center - Bad Urach voters block Amazon’s controversial distribution center plans
In a local referendum, voters in Bad Urach have rejected plans for an Amazon distribution center. The proposal, which promised up to 550 new jobs, sparked months of debate and ultimately failed to gain majority support.
The distribution center, planned for a four-hectare site, would have sorted packages for the region. However, opponents feared heavy traffic and pressure on local retailers, leading to a heated debate.
Supporters, including Mayor Elmar Rebmann (SPD), argued for the potential new jobs and increased tax revenue. Despite these benefits, 52.5 percent of voters opposed the project, while 47.5 percent supported it.
With the referendum result, Amazon's plans for a distribution center in Bad Urach have been halted. The city will now explore other options for the four-hectare site, prioritizing the community's concerns.
