ADAC warns: Long traffic jams expected for the start of holidays in Baden-Württemberg - Baden-Württemberg Braces for Severe Weekend Traffic Gridlock

Baden-Württemberg residents brace themselves for significant road delays this weekend, as autumn school holidays begin and return traffic from other federal states compounds the situation. The start of Bavaria’s autumn break on Friday, October 31, is expected to exacerbate the issue.

Last year, on the Friday before the autumn break, Baden-Württemberg witnessed tailbacks stretching over 551 kilometres, with drivers losing 228 hours in traffic jams. This Friday, October 24, is anticipated to see the worst of the gridlock, with high risk of severe congestion. Long-distance traffic will be diverted via a large-scale detour from the Weinsberg interchange, using the A6 and A7.

The A8 motorway near the Swabian Alb ascent will be completely closed from 9:00 PM on Friday, October 31, until 5:00 AM on Monday, November 3, for resurfacing work and repairs. No up-to-date traffic information or warnings specifically for Bavaria on this day is available. All Saints’ Day on Saturday, November 1, is expected to bring significantly lighter traffic, but the final day of the holidays, November 2, is likely to see heavier return traffic. Key congestion hotspots include A5, A6, A7, A8, and A81.

Baden-Württemberg residents are advised to plan their journeys carefully, expect significant delays, and consider alternative routes or modes of transport where possible. Real-time traffic updates should be monitored regularly to stay informed about the situation.
