Baden-Württemberg Leads Europe's Satellite Communication Push

Baden-Württemberg recently hosted a crucial event, 'Satellite Communication for Europe: Resilient, Sovereign, and Independent', at its State Representation in Berlin. Coinciding with Germany's presidency of the ESA Ministerial Council, the gathering aimed to set a significant direction for European satellite communication. The event was organised by the Ministry of the Interior, along with other ministries and the German Center for Satellite Communication (DeSC).

The event brought together key figures from politics, administration, the military, science, and business. They discussed vital topics such as resilience, critical infrastructure security, 5G/6G connectivity, and the European satellite constellation IRIS2. Deputy Minister-President and Interior Minister Thomas Strobl underscored the strategic and technological importance of satellite communication, reflecting Baden-Württemberg's commitment to driving its significance.

Baden-Württemberg, already a leading aerospace location in Germany with a sector turnover of around five billion euros and approximately 16,000 employees, seeks to become one of Europe's leading aerospace regions. Its aerospace strategy, 'THE Aerospace LAÜND - On to new horizons', sets this course. The event in Berlin served as a key step towards achieving this goal, especially with Germany at the helm of the ESA Ministerial Council, allowing it to influence technological leadership, European cooperation, and global competition in space.

The event in Berlin, attended by the current ESA President Josef Aschbacher, highlighted Baden-Württemberg's dedication to advancing satellite communication. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the state has positioned itself as a key player in shaping Europe's satellite communication strategy, ensuring resilience, sovereignty, and independence.
