Regional Push: Fuel Prices Should Only Increase Once a Day - Baden-Württemberg Proposes Daily Fuel Price Cap in Bundesrat

Baden-Württemberg has proposed a resolution in the Bundesrat to limit fuel price increases at German gas stations to once a day, following the Austrian model. This comes as tank station operators often face sudden price hikes and consumer complaints.

The state's proposal, supported in the Bundesrat on October 17, 2025, recommends the German government to explore measures for better gas price transparency. Currently, gas prices can change up to 18 times a day, according to a Federal Cartel Office report.

The Association of Tank Station Owners has welcomed this initiative, which aims to provide more stability for both operators and consumers. The Bundesrat has previously supported a similar procedure in 2012.

Baden-Württemberg's proposal seeks to reduce gas price fluctuations, potentially easing the burden on tank station operators and providing clearer information for consumers. The Association of Tank Station Owners supports this move towards more predictable gas prices.
