Federal parties discuss outcome of Baden-Württemberg election - Baden-Württemberg's 2026 election sparks high turnout and party reactions

Baden-Württemberg's 2026 state election has drawn strong voter interest, with turnout reaching 69.6%. This marks a notable rise from 63.8% in 2021, though it remains below the record 80.0% set in 1972. Major parties are now preparing to respond to the election results in a series of meetings and press conferences.

The Greens, led by Cem Özdemir, will begin the day with a party council meeting. Their press conference is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., following their victory in the election results.

The AfD will be the first to address the media, issuing a statement at 10:00 a.m. in Stuttgart. Later, at 1:00 p.m., the Left—having failed to secure parliamentary seats—will hold its own press conference.

At 1:30 p.m., both the SPD and the CDU will speak to reporters. The SPD, which narrowly passed the five-percent threshold, will gather its committees before the briefing. Meanwhile, the CDU, under Chancellor Friedrich Merz, will also hold a meeting ahead of its media address.

Top party bodies will convene on Monday to fully assess the election results and discuss next steps.

The election results have set the stage for a busy day of political reactions. With turnout climbing and key parties set to outline their positions, Baden-Württemberg's political landscape is now in sharp focus. The Greens' win and the Left's exclusion will likely shape the discussions ahead.
