Bajaj Group honours its founder’s legacy of freedom and self-reliance in India

The Bajaj Group has released a commemorative video honouring the life and legacy of its founder, Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, on his 136th birth anniversary. Born in 1889, Bajaj's journey from humble beginnings to a transformative leader in India's freedom movement and industrialisation is chronicled in the video, 'The Spirit of Self-Reliant India'.

Bajaj's entrepreneurial spirit was nurtured when he was adopted by Seth Bachhraj of Wardha, Maharashtra. In 1926, he founded the Bajaj Group, which has since grown into one of India's oldest and most respected conglomerates, spanning sugar, energy, FMCG, and philanthropy.

Mahatma Gandhi, who affectionately referred to Bajaj as 'his fifth son', played a significant role in shaping Bajaj's commitment to India's freedom and self-reliance. Bajaj's dedication to Gandhian principles is evident in his promotion of Khadi, Swadeshi, and equality. He opened the Laxminarayan Temple in Wardha to the untouchables for the first time, setting a precedent for social reform.

Bajaj's enduring values of truth, simplicity, compassion, and nationalism continue to guide the Bajaj Group. He donated land in Wardha for Sevagram Ashram, where Gandhiji resided from 1936 to 1948, serving as a nucleus for India's freedom movement. Bajaj's vision for self-reliance was also reflected in his establishment of the first Indian-owned full-fledged sugar mill at Gola Gokarannath, Uttar Pradesh in 1931, laying the foundation for India's modern sugar industry and embodying the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Under the leadership of Chairman Shri Kushagra Bajaj and Shri Shishir Bajaj, the Bajaj Group continues to uphold Shri Jamnalal Bajaj's legacy. The commemorative video serves as a reminder of Bajaj's transformative role in India's independence struggle and industrial growth, inspiring future generations to embrace his values of self-reliance, simplicity, and compassion.
