Baltimore County Residents Protest ICE Actions Against Migrant Workers

Baltimore County residents gathered outside a local Home Depot to protest ICE's presence and actions against migrant workers. The rally, part of a national event, occurred a day after the county signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ICE, removing it from the DOJ's sanctuary jurisdictions list.

The agreement between Baltimore County and ICE does not alter the county's standard practices, aligning it with other Maryland jurisdictions. Protestors, however, expressed anger and frustration towards ICE's actions and the Trump administration. Stephanie Petrides, a participant, voiced her concerns.

The rally focused on ICE's targeting of day laborers at Home Depot, who are trying to earn money for their families. Ben Cruz, another participant, hires migrant workers from the Home Depot and shared his concerns about their safety and potential deportation. Protestors advised immigrants to know their rights in case of ICE encounters, distributing red cards with relevant information.

Home Depot stated that they are not involved in immigration enforcement activities and follow all federal and local rules and regulations. The rally was part of the national 'ICE Out of Home Depot' event, calling on the store and other corporations to stop aiding policies that endanger migrant workers.

Baltimore County, previously the only Maryland location on the DOJ's list of sanctuary jurisdictions, has signed an agreement with ICE. Despite the county's assurance that practices remain unchanged, residents rallied to protest ICE's actions against migrant workers. Home Depot maintains it is not involved in immigration enforcement. The rally highlighted concerns about the safety and rights of migrant workers.
