Bamberg's St. Michael's Church to Undergo €800,000 Renovation
Bamberg's St. Michael's Church is set to undergo a significant renovation, with the Bavarian Minister of Science and Arts, Markus Blume, announcing a substantial funding decision of €800,000. The project, which includes the restoration of the Holy Sepulchre Chapel and the Chapel of Mary, is expected to preserve and enhance one of Bamberg's most notable landmarks.
Markus Blume, the Minister of Culture, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that St. Michael's Church is a significant landmark of Bamberg, rich in history and cultural value. The renovation, funded at 90 percent by the state, will also include the restoration of historic epitaphs within the church.
The Holy Sepulchre Chapel, a key feature of the church, will see its iconic 'Dance of Death' images restored. These images were designed by Markus Thurner, a renowned Tyrolean sculptor known for his monumental contemporary interpretations of the Dance of Death theme.
The renovation of St. Michael's Church, made possible by the €800,000 funding, aims to preserve and revitalize an important part of Bamberg's heritage. The project is expected to enhance the visitor experience and ensure the continued appreciation of the church's historical and cultural significance.
