Bangladesh Aims to Boost Stats Agency's Tech, Efficiency for SDGs
Bangladesh's interim government is pushing for reforms at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to improve data collection and analysis. This comes ahead of World Statistics Day and National Statistics Day-2025, which will be observed on Monday. The government aims to make the process more efficient and technology-driven.
Professor Muhammad Yunus, a chief adviser to the government, stressed the importance of quality statistics in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He believes accurate data is crucial for formulating and implementing government policies. Yunus also sees universal access to quality data as a key to enhancing democratic governance, transparency, and accountability.
The theme for this year's observance is 'Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone'. Yunus wished success to all programmes undertaken on the occasion. He expressed the goal of ensuring quality statistics and data for all through collective efforts.
