Bangladesh civil society demands reforms before 2024 election with bold manifesto

Civil society leaders in Bangladesh have pushed for urgent reforms ahead of the national elections. The Nagorik Platform, a coalition of local organisations, has drafted a 'Citizen Manifesto' outlining key demands for political parties and candidates. Among the priorities are fair elections, safer infrastructure, and stronger environmental protections.

The manifesto calls for free and fair elections under an impartial caretaker government. It also demands accountability for election-related violence and a fully transparent voter list. Local leaders argue that without addressing public fears, meaningful participation in the vote will remain difficult.

The Nagorik Platform’s manifesto sets clear expectations for the upcoming 2024 election. It pushes for fairer voting conditions, economic reforms, and stronger environmental and safety measures. Political parties will now face pressure to respond to these demands before the election day.
