Bangladesh Election Reveals Wealth Gap Among National Citizen Party Candidates
Candidates from the National Citizen Party (NCP) have submitted their financial details ahead of Bangladesh’s 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections. The declarations reveal varying levels of wealth among those contesting seats across multiple constituencies. One candidate stands out as the wealthiest in the party’s lineup.
Md Mahbub Alam, brother of former information adviser Mahfuz Alam, is running in Lakshmipur-1. His declared movable assets total Tk 1.10 crore, making him the NCP’s richest candidate. This figure significantly exceeds the wealth of other party nominees.
Akhter Hossen, NCP member secretary, is contesting the Bhola-1 seat. His annual income is Tk 5,05,000, with movable assets valued at Tk 27 lakh. Meanwhile, Dilshana Parul, joint chief coordinator, is running in Dhaka-19 with an annual income of Tk 22,00,000. In Cumilla-4, Hasnat Abdullah, the party’s south zone chief organiser, reported an annual income of Tk 12,53,539. His total assets are worth Tk 50 lakh. Abdul Hannan Masud, senior chief coordinator for Noakhali-6, owns movable assets valued at Tk 76,83,000 and gold worth Tk 8 lakh. Nahid Islam, NCP convener, is contesting Dhaka-11 with an annual income of Tk 16 lakh. He also declared Tk 19.5 lakh in cash. Sarjis Alam, north zone chief organiser, is running in Panchagarh-1 with an annual income of Tk 9 lakh and Tk 3,11,128 in cash. Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator and candidate for Dhaka-8, holds movable assets worth Tk 40 lakh. His annual income is Tk 4,47,333.
The financial disclosures provide a clear picture of the candidates’ economic standing before the elections. Voters will now have access to these details as they consider their choices in the upcoming polls. The NCP’s nominees represent a range of incomes and asset levels across different regions.
