Bangladesh gears up for 2026 election with security and awareness reforms
The Bangladesh government has approved several key measures ahead of the 2026 national election. These include purchasing new shotguns, reviewing body camera procurement, and expanding public awareness campaigns. Officials also discussed economic reforms with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During a recent meeting, the advisory council’s economic affairs committee agreed to produce and broadcast documentaries for public awareness news programmes. These will be created under a direct purchase method to inform citizens before the February 2026 election.
The new shotguns will modernise equipment for security personnel, while body cameras may be introduced in phases depending on need. Meanwhile, awareness news programmes will continue to inform the public before the next election. The IMF’s feedback suggests further economic adjustments may be necessary in the coming months.
